Fun Brain Games Fun Brain Games Menu About Brain Training January 23, 2015 braingame Watch this video. Take a look at the two squares as they cross your screen. Do they appear to be traveling in a staggered motion, like little footsteps, or are they gliding smoothly across the screen? If you see the squares taking footsteps, your not alone. That’s how most people see them. What you don’t realize is the squares are in fact gliding smoothly and your brain only sees them as taking footsteps. Prepare to retrain your brain to prevent this from happening. Your brain may not be a computer, but much like a computer, your brain can benefit from regular updates for peak performance. We live in the computer age. Whether it be our phone, PC, or laptop, we are constantly staring at a computer. Have you ever stopped to consider with all the rapid advancements in technology, your brain might be getting left behind? Wouldn’t it be great if you could retrain your brain and improve its capacity and capability? Getting an upgrade isn’t as far fetched as it sounds. Upgrading your device is simple, but the only way to upgrade your brain is through mental training. we are going to discuss brain games that will give your brain a boost. Why do the lines in the above video cause your brain to see motion in a different way? One explanation has to do with contrast. Your brain uses contrast to gauge speed. When a blue square crosses over the black line, the contrast is lower so the square appears to speed up. The yellow square appears to slow down because the contrast is higher. Your brain is using a mental shortcut to suppose how they move instead of seeing them as they actually are. Mental shortcuts like this one often trade accuracy for speed. Mental shortcuts can give you an edge if you know how they work. Uncategorized Top 5 games for challenging the mind November 17, 2014 braingame Playing a board game with friends and family can be a great way to pass the time and learn more about each other. Today, we often find ourselves turning to electronics and and television instead of turning to each other for something fun to do. Games that challenge the mind can not only be a fun way to reconnect with your family, but can also be a mental exercise to keep your brain at its best! The below fun brain games will keep you, your friends, your family, and your mind… active for hours. 1. Wit’s End Wit’s End is a fun trivia game where you have to answer questions correctly to move closer to the finish line. Unlike most trivia games, The questions in wit’s end are based on logic instead of remembering random facts. You may have to put together a riddle in order to answer the question correctly. As you answer questions correctly, you move to inner rings of the game which slowly get you closer to the finish in the center. Wit’s end is a fun game to grab out of the closet to see who in your group is the best at answering logical questions. Ages 12 and up 2-6 players 2. Yottsugo This one is for word lovers and those who don’t mind an occasional crossword puzzle. You start Yottsugo with a clue book that gives you the initial letters you will be using. Your job is to fit the pieces together to form four letter words that fit together in a grid, or for the more focused word nerds, there is an 8 letter word option. As you get stumped, the clue book gives you hints to help you proceed. You get to choose how long you suffer before looking at the next clue. The game comes with 40 word puzzles that each have their own clue book. This is a fun game to play alone, or with a group of friends that would like to challenge their brain. Ages 12 and up Any number of players 3. Mind Trap This one is an oldie and a goodie! Mind Trap pits two teams against each other to see which group is best at answering questions. The questions are not all random trivia. You may find yourself trying to answer a logical question, riddle, word challenge, or other mind bender. The team who moves up the score card first wins. Once a question is answered correctly, the team moves forward a space and can then choose to either answer another question or, if they aren’t feeling particularly smart, roll a die and move forward the rolled number of spaces. There isn’t a whole lot to this game, but the questions are very challenging and fun. Ages 12 and up 2-16 players 4. Cranium Cranium is a fun brain game for the whole family or a group of friends. Four or more players will divide into two teams and work together to solve riddles and puzzles. Cranium is kinda like charades and a trivia game wrapped into one. Players will have to act something out, or hum a tune for their teammates to guess. This game is unique in that it requires players to actually mold something out of clay and have their team figure out what it is. There are also riddle and trivia cards that the team will work together to answer. 4 or more players Ages 16 plus (according to the manufacturer) I’d say it’s fine for kids 12 and up. 5. Like Minds Like minds is a fun brain game where you have to guess what your teammate is going to guess…. Really. You and your partner each make a list based on a certain topic and which ever team gets the most matches wins. For example, you may be asked to list your top 5 favorite sports teams, ice-cream flavors, or television shows. Without looking at what your partner is writing down, you try to guess what they are going to write and write down the same answers. Which ever team has the most matches moves down the game board the quickest and wins! 4 or more players Ages 10 and up There are many fun brain games out there to choose from.
